Hello, awesome CMS families!!
It was so wonderful to welcome our staff back to school this past week!! We enjoyed a delicious breakfast the morning staff returned, a building tour, professional learning sessions both at the school-level and division-level, and looooooots of meetings/trainings (🙃). We are so looking forward to having our kids back in the building on Wednesday!!
Thanks to all who came out to see the CMS Community Cruise!! It was wonderful to see some of our students in our neighborhoods. We look forward to seeing everyone at CMS for our Family Meet + Greets: M 08.10.26 (3:00-6:00), T 08.11.26 (12:00-3:00).
Here are the updates and information for this week:
1. Meet + Greet details - We are SUPER excited to see everyone at our Family Meet + Greets tomorrow (3:00-6:00) and Tuesday (12:00-3:00). A few important details:
Parking will be very limited. Please consider parking on a side street and walking to the school if you’re able.
There is absolutely NO parking in the fire lane at the front of the school. It might look tempting, but don’t do it.
-
Start your building “tour” in the cafeteria, where you will find:
Class schedule and school map
Our grade level counselors who can answer questions about the class schedule, they will receive schedule change requests, etc.
Our registrar (Mr. Kreitzman) who can answer questions about PowerSchool and transportation
CMS t-shirt/swag distribution
Backpack distribution (for those who registered)
Young Knights Market food distribution (for those who registered)
Gifted resource table
Other community partners
World Language teachers will be in the Media Center during Meet + Greets - make sure you stop by and see them there!
2. Young Knights Market - The CMS Young Knights Market is a monthly food distribution for CMS students and families in need of additional food. The YKM will be hosting a pop-up during the Family Meet + Greets. Students and families are invited to stop by the cafeteria to pick up fresh produce, including squash and potatoes! Families can sign up at this link!! See flyer (in multiple languages) for more info.!!
3. Chromebooks - CMS students will no longer be taking chromebooks home; rather, they will access devices as necessary within their classrooms, and those devices will remain at school. The one exception is for students who are enrolled in Early Morning P.E., as there is an online health component that requires students to complete modules at home.
4. Class schedules / teacher assignments - Your child’s class schedule / teacher assignments were sent out via ParentSquare last week. Our course schedule change request procedures are articulated here - please note that course schedule changes are made for educational purposes, not for social preferences.
5. Important CMS information (repeat) - Please review the following documents to help orient your family and your child to our procedures at CMS:
6. Volunteering at CMS (repeat) - There will be several large-scale opportunities for volunteering at CMS throughout the year, including helping with the Spring Fling, Field Day, etc. In order to volunteer in any capacity at CMS, volunteers need to have completed the CCS volunteer training. This involves watching a roughly 15-minute video and completing the registration form, all of which may be found on the volunteering page on our CCS website (scroll down). Please note that this training must be completed annually.
7. Vaccinations for 7th graders (repeat) - All of our 7th graders MUST have all of their required vaccinations in order to start back to school. There are several upcoming opportunities for students to be vaccinated:
If you are unsure if your child is up-to-date on their vaccinations, please call Nurse Jenna, our school nurse, at 434.245.2411.
8. School supply list (repeat) - This is our list of school supplies. If you are able to provide these items for your child, awesome!! If not, NO WORRIES, we will absolutely ensure that every single child has what they need - so please don’t stress about this list!! The majority of supplies on these lists are communal supplies, so if you’re able to send in any extras, they are always appreciated (and surely put to good use!).
9. Information from community partners -
I hope to see you at Meet + Greets tomorrow or Tuesday!!
Much love,
Summer Thompson
Principal
